The Address Book lists the addresses for all users, groups, and resources defined in your GroupWise® system and all users you have added to your personal address books. When you select a name from the Address Book, the address is placed in the To, CC, or BC box. If you choose not to use the Address Book, you need to know each recipient's address.
Each GroupWise user, group, and resource has a unique address consisting of an ID, post office, and domain. For example, a user address looks like the following:
userID.post_office.domain
Most of the time, you need to enter only the userID portion of the address. However, if the recipient's user ID is not unique within the GroupWise system, you must enter the userID.post_office portion or all of the address.
Your GroupWise system administrator knows whether user IDs are unique within your GroupWise system. You can find out yourself by sending a message to a recipient and using only his or her user ID as the address. If the correct recipient does not receive it, try sending another message using userID.post_office as the address. If the correct recipient still doesn't receive it, you must use the entire userID.post_office.domain address.
You can substitute the user's full name for the user ID, but only when you enter the full name without the post office or domain. For example, you could use john doe instead of jdoe; however, you could not use john doe.po1.
If your GroupWise system has access to external messaging systems such as the Internet, you can send messages to people outside your GroupWise system. This requires you to know the addressing information required for your GroupWise system to route the message to the external system. This might be as simple as jdoe@novell.com or internet:jdoe@novell.com, or it may be more complex. You can try the jdoe@novell.com format. If this format does not work, contact your GroupWise system administrator for specific information.
